An Astrological Election of Jupiter, Venus and the Moon
for Prosperity and Good Fortune
Gold? Yellow, glittering, precious gold?
...
This yellow slave
Will knit and break religions, bless th’ accursed,
Make the hoar leprosy adored, place thieves,
And give them title, knee and approbation
With senators on the bench.
William Shakespeare
The Italian Renaissance philosopher
Marsilio Ficino had great preference for the planet
Jupiter, "For he is very temperate in
quality, giving whatever is hoped from Venus
or the Sun in a way of his own, more magnificently and honorably than Venus,
more temperately too than the Sun..." Three Books on Life Bk. III Chapter 5
(Kaske & Clarke 1989) page 264-5.
When it comes to general good fortune and prosperity,
however, our traditional sources all like Jupiter, after all he is the
Greater Fortune. The Italian astrologer Guido Bonatti says that Jupiter signifies
abundance of substance. Liber Astronomiae Tractate III, Chapter 65 (Spica ed.)
page 110. William Lilly says that Jupiter is the
natural significator of wealth. Christian Astrology page 168.
Ficino says, "...so we will use Jovial things,
when he and the Moon have both dignity natural and accidental and are together
or aspecting each other felicitously." Three Books on Life Bk. III Chapter 5
(Kaske & Clarke 1989) page 265.
If you've been thinking about making
Astrological Talismans this is a
great election to start with. You can also use it as an election for a Jovial
or financial activity.
The time chosen for
the election is August 10, 2001 at 9:22 pm EDT in Washington,
D.C. 38 N 55, 77 W 03. At this time Pisces rises.
Thus Jupiter is the ruler of the ascendant and
significator of the elector (person who will be using the election).
Jupiter is
very dignified essentially in his exaltation Cancer
and in his term.
He is well dignified accidentally in the angular fourth house and is thus
able to carry out what he promises. Jupiter is the
ruler of the first and tenth houses. As ruler of the first, he signifies
the elector (person who will be using the election).
In any election we would like to to see the
Moon strong, as she conveys all influences from the
superior spheres to us in the sub-lunary realm. Here she is in her
exaltation, Taurus, as well as being the night
triplicity ruler of Earth signs.
She is well placed for financial questions
by being conjunct the cusp of the second house of money and personal property.
The presence of the Moon in the second house, says Lilly, is a sign of wealth.
Christian Astrology page 168. Finally she is also the almuten
(planet having greatest dignity at the cusp) of the second house.
The Moon has just separated from a sextile
of the Part of Fortune, though they are still in the same degree. She applies to
a sextile of the benefic North Node. Her next planetary aspect is a sextile with
reception to Jupiter. She then makes a sextile with strong reception to Venus,
the Lesser Fortune. Venus is the ruler of the second house.
An appropriate talisman for this election could be
made using the Table of Jupiter from Cornelius Agrippa'sThree Books of Occult Philosophy Bk. II, Chapter 22 (Tyson ed.) page 322,
which appears at right. We might also add the Angels of Jupiter, the Moon and
Venus, which are Zadkiel, Gabriel and Hanael, respectively.
